Countryside-Chic: These animals can you expect!

The new concept, the one I’ve told about in the previous post, is going to be countryside-chic: this is the theme I will continue working on from now on. But, what is it exactly and what can you expect?

Why countryside-chic?

Short story: After painting all kinds of species, it’s time to choose a direction in order to grow. Where I first started with horses and farm animals, I slowly went to more exotic animals: especially African animals became my favourites.

But, sometimes you have to make choices. It’s almost impossible to paint ‘all of them’, and because of the large amount, you have ‘too many choices’, which creates chaos in the mind. And, if you can’t focus on one theme, you’re constantly doing ‘everything’ without building a foundation. So, it’s essential to make choices.

And, that choice has been made! It’s country-side chic. Since I’ve always lived close to nature and went to the forest many times with dogs and horses, I realised that this theme is most close to my heart. It’s even fair to say that’s part of my DNA.

The style

Al right! But, what can you expect? The style of countryside-chic will be a combination of rustic and industrial, but also modern with an elegant touch. What I will do differently than other painters, is making it more bold and flamboyant.

Many paintings with rustic themes can be quite outdated or doesn’t have a certain ‘energy’. I want to make it more ‘tough’, without losing the purity. It will have that typical classic and rustic flair, but without unnecessary decoration. Which animals will you see? I will tell you!

Horses

Since I was around 3 years old, horses were my first love: the reason why I started with painting in the first place. So, reason number one to give these wonderful creatures a prominent position. The horses you will see, are not only the famous sports breeds and baroque types, like the Friesian and Andalusian, but also the oriental and American ones, ponies and draft horses. From solid colours to spots: you will see them all!

Farm animals

With Brabant roots, it’s not that difficult to see the countryside at its best. Especially when you don’t literally grow up on a farm, but with many animals and in a rural environment, you know how special and charming the countryside really is. Mostly because of the purity in a world where photoshop and digital tricks are -unfortunately- nowadays very common.

In this category, you won’t only find Old Dutch animals, but also English and French breeds and sometimes even African and Asian types. From sheep to cattle and goats: soon, you will see al these famous farm animals. And, who knows, as a statement in your interior! But, I have something more for you...

Forest animals

If there are certain animals perfect for the countryside theme, it will be classic forest animals. Deer, hare, foxes and pheasants: you will often see them in rustic and industrial interiors, especially because of their royal appearances and warm earth tones.

Not only they have something majestic or tough, they also have a chic look. So, it’s not a surprise that these animals are the favourites of noble families, hanging there in their countryside mansions.

In a short amount of time, the classic forest animals of Europe and North America will be seen here too, especially with the autumn and winter.

Dogs

Although dogs are mostly painted for personal reasons, you will see them here too! Some dogs have a 'cultural status', like typical countryside breeds as hunting dogs, thinking of retrievers, spaniels and hounds. But, you will also see some more artistic looking dogs, like the Greyhound, Dalmation and Borzoi. And, other breeds or own dogs? They can be commissioned, of course.

Exotic animals

Exotic animals will be painted too, only in a lesser amount than all of the animals above. And, most of them will be African, complemented with well-known animals from other continents, like big cats and some tropical birds. And of course, just like dogs and other animals, these creatures can be commissioned as well.

With the style of countryside-chic, you can’t only enhance your rustic or industrial style, you can also easily combine them! And, the animals are not only available on giclee and dibond, soon you can also buy them as throw pillows or tablecloths. And, which theme is your favourite?
