CHIAROSCURO
Mysterious and dark, yet ideal for creating a warm atmosphere: the Clair-obscur collection features horse portraits against a dark background, heightened by sharp light and dark contrast so that the animal seems to emerge from the darkness. It is a painting style made famous by masters such as Rembrandt, translated here into fine art horse art. This collection is designed especially for high-end interiors and released as very limited-edition prints.
The charm of darkness
Darkness that stirs the imagination: it is one of the main reasons why the chiaroscuro painting style fascinates viewers so much. It is a style in which shadow is just as important as sharp light, and the darkness holds a kind of mystery, because the details in the background fall away.
For that reason, I also wanted to release a collection devoted entirely to chiaroscuro, as the dark counterpart to my modern and colourful Editorial collection.
The dark background, the sharp interplay of light and shadow, and the mysterious, even slightly foreboding mood together create a warm and even romantic feel. In this collection you will mainly find horse breeds that are often associated with cultural settings, such as the powerful, classic Andalusian, but also the Middle Eastern Akhal-Teke and Arabian.
Like Rembrandt, I chose the somewhat more subtle approach, so that the horse's gaze can be intense yet still have a soft quality. The Clair-obscur collection is therefore ideal for creating a warm, intimate atmosphere at home, where the dramatic effect works immediately as a statement in the room.
